He is high-functioning and attends a regular kindergarten class. I used to think he was too young, but I want to be pro-active. I want him to know there is nothing wrong with him and that his autism makes him special. I just don’t know how to go about it.
In answer to iceman, actually, there are many levels of autism. That is part of the reason, I believe, there are so many more people being diagnosed with it today. To just meet my son, nobody would know he has autism. People are always surprised when I tell them. He is friendly, very intelligent, well-behaved and quite sensitive. His issues lie with peer interaction and socialization. He has difficulty reading social cues and does “quirky” things that don’t necessarily fit in with what his friends are doing.
I do appreciate your advice, though. Thanks!
