In short, could someone please tell me what autism is and why there are so many kids that are being diagnosed with this disorder? Is it just an answer doctors give because they don’t have any idea what is wrong…..
I just don’t get it and what the difference in stages are…I’m starting to believe its just a lie…kind of like every other diagnosis these days.
I know there are several theories: (1) better diagnosis is catching more cases (2) mercury in vaccinations (3) food allergies (4) etc… What do YOU attribute the rise in autism cases to?
Instead of going to a autistic school I wanted to place my son in Manatee co schools at 3 and soon is his evaluation. What pointers can anyone give me. and what official diagnosis does he really need. I am fearful of the official Autism label he has PDD for now. He of coarse ages out of early steps and needs continual schooling and I have heard great things about the school system. Any advice and help would be appreciated
I feel I am very different from most people, and I have pretty much every trait of Asperger’s Syndrome. I just don’t know if it’s worth it to get diagnosed. By that I mean, how can I benefit from an official diagnosis? Is there anything they can do to help?
By the way, I’m a 24 year old college student.
How “normal” can a teen seem and still have some kind of autism?
Are there any symptoms that MUST be there for a diagnosis or does it all vary? Is there any chance someone wouldn’t be diagnosed until that late anyway?
My 2 1/2 yr old son is showing “2 or 3 red flags” for autism according to GP. Have an appointment tomorrow with paediatric Dr. Will we come home with a diagnosis or will it be over a series or months/weeks ? Thanks for any help.
my 3 year old daughter has suspected autism and is due to be assessed in the next couple of weeks and hopefully get a diagnosis.my question is what will happen after the diagnosis and does any one have any ideas on how to manage sceaming and temper fits?as they are getting worse with her age.ive tried distraction with a little sucess but it does not seem to work when we are out and about. any ideas would be very helpful thanks.

My son is 24 months old and he has been in therapy since he was about 6 months old, he has seen many specialist and the only diagnosis they have given me is developmentally delayed, he is only able to role over push him self up with his elbows, he is starting to get on his knees now, he still doesn’t talk and he seems to love his hands but he will not play with toys. I have been searching for help for over a year and a half and im starting to worry more and more by the day not knowing whats wrong and not being able to help him. I am just looking for some help and advise from others who are dealing with similar situations. Please any advise helps. Im a single mother of 2 and im only 20 and just want to help my son. I knew that there was something not right when my son stopped communicating with my husband and I. He also never looked into the camera anymore and expressions were a thing of the past. So, when the docs diagnosed him I was not surprised as I did all the research and came to terms with it early on. My husband it took awhile.
