How many of you know what autism is?

How many of you know what autism is? How many of you have someone in your family with it or know a friend who has it? I know what it is. I have a little brother with it and I love him more than anything. No haters please. Also I would like to know why people are so mean and demeaning to people with the disorder. Why can’t they embrace their differences?

I know what it is. I don’t have someone in family who has it but anyone who makes fun of someone with autism is just plain stupid.

My nephew is autistic. He just celebrated his 15th birthday. I also have taught Special Needs children…including autistic children.

Each case of autism…as you probably are aware…is individual…and the degree and severity is also very unique to each person.

Most people I’ve encountered are very understanding and patient about autism. Only occasionally will I meet someone lacking understanding, knowledge or patience.

Ignorance tends to breed contempt. All too often it is those with a lack of education who are mean and/or demeaning to those less fortunate. On rare occasions…educated people can also be this way…but on the whole…it is a glaring lack of sophistication which is their disability.

The child who is autistic does not elect to be the way he/she is. They are totally blameless of any wrongdoing or fault.
The same cannot be said for those who would be cruel or demeaning to them. Behaviour like this IS elective…and warrants blame and contempt.

    i know what it is.
but austictic children are really smart!
people are demeaning towards the disorder due to lack of intelligence.
    all ignorance.

My brother had Aspergers. He died almost three years ago. He is still loved and missed as much as he was when we found out about his death.
I`ve asked the same questions about why there is such a big deal about “normalising” people . Difference is a GOOD thing. If those differences were embraced, I think society would gain lots from those on the Autistic spectrum.

I am all to well aware what autism is! I have a brother with it! There are different forms of autism, some mild some major….

I think people make fun of them the same reason they make fun of kids with down syndrome, with deformities, scars and anything else you can think of…

They are unhappy with themselves and it makes them feel better or more powerful to find someone weaker than them that they can attack so to speak. This is sad that people need to “confirm” themselves by picking on or making fun of others who can not defend themselves!

Of course you have the secondary answer as well, They make fun of them because they are scared of them and do not know how to react to them.

I think people usually pick on those who are different. It doesn’t make it right, but that appears to be the way some are. Everyone with autism is different. Some are very aggressive and struggle with school work and some are super sweet and are very intelligent.

If your parents decide they would like to recover your brother, tell them to check out My children no longer have autism.

I know what autism is. There is a guy in my maths class who has autism. He acts very weird, I hate him sometimes but other times I feel sorry for him. He gets scared if you point your hand if it is shaped like a gun to him. We got some performers some 10 weeks ago and he just said random stuff. We are mean to them because we are normal and they aren’t, we can speak properly they can’t, we act properly they can’t, etc etc etc.

Well anyways good luck. And I wish your brother the very best in the future.
