We pay a nice young woman $180 a week for respite care for our disabled son. He has severe autism. I know she pays taxes on this income. Can we deduct this as a medical expense on out taxes?
Thanks for your help
I have a 50 something year old friend that has an autistic brother whom my 7 year old daughter met today and promptly asked me
“Mommy, what’s autism?” How do I explain this in a way that does not dehumanize the autistic person, ie, as malfunctioning.
I’ve noticed some troubling red flags displayed by my toddler son and fear he may have autism. I’m not jumping to conclusions yet and I made an appointment to see a pediatric psychologist to see if that’s true. The waiting now is killing me. I’m wondering how I can deal with all of my emotions about this. I’m terrified of the diagnosis of autism. However, I know that if he does have autism, an early intervention and treatment is critical. When I first saw a list of autism symptoms, I nearly threw up because so many of them described my son. How does a parent cope with this?
I am having a lot of trouble finding a psychologist in the Baltimore metro area. I am not even sure that is who I should be looking for to give an assessment. If anyone has any info at all about this, I would greatly appreciate it!
Do I need to go to a University Hospital or a place like Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania to see a good Geneticist Specialist or do they have private practices like other doctors?
The whole day is devoted to autism and will I am sure have a lot of good valuable information for parents. I am going to watch as much as I can.
Step by step, please. I know someone who made one before but I don’t know what she put in it to make it weighted.
I could ask her, but she’s got “issues” that cause her to forget stuff like that. She prolly even forgot she made that blanket, LOL….
I am in middle school, and my little brother has asbergers. I want to here from other people about there experiances with it. I have only met one other girl who has a sibling with asbergers, so I just want to here from other people about it.
It seems like the only info or help available is for children. My autistic brother is 26 and fairly high functioning, but had a regression two years ago and has not yet returned to his old self. My parents and I are frustrated and don’t know what to do to help him. He has seen every sort of specialist from mental health to holistic medicine we can think of and we have tried things like chelation, diets, speech therapy, vitamins, psych meds and counseling. Nothing made a difference. It is beginning to feel like there must be some secret island that autistic people are sent to at age 18, because no one seems to have any knowledge about working with autistic people when they become adults.
